Steve Stoute – “A McKinsey Of Pop Culture?”
Stoute is a very interesting cat! I became acquainted with him during my time at Sony Music & even during those days you could see that he had BIG DREAMS. Many have questioned his business tactics & ethics, but he seems 2 be getting results.
Carol’s Daughter, RBK, HP, GM….just 2 name a few. Who knows the Ad Game might become the new “Hip Hop”? We need more people of color in positions of power who are shaping & developing the agenda. Having worked at a Media Agency, I can tell U from experience it’s necessary..
I saw Stoute a few weeks back at a bday party for an old friend & he was choppin‘ it up with his buddy Mr. Carter. Stoute and I exchanged pleasantries & I kept it moving at a YG‘s pace.
I always find it pretty amusing sometimes when I reflect on some of the people that I’m acquainted. Especially those who used 2 refer 2 me as Young Stoute!(pre–YG) U could say that we r “cut from the same cloth” in some respects, because those who have worked in the music biz know the hunger needed 2 be successful. I won’t front.. I’ve taken some cues from Stoute many times…
One thing I’ve realized is that U can learn a lot from just being in the presence of an OG (Quincy,Stoute,C.Tuck) & watching how they move. Some of my best lessons have been when an OG told me 2 shut up, watch, and listen.
Watching a dude like Stoute communicate is a sight 2 see. Stoute truly has the gift of gab…. he could sell “water 2 a well” & make the well feel good about it… The best Stoutism that stands out 2 me was at a NAS concert a few years back. The stage was thugged out & Stoute comes on stage in a 3 Piece suit. At first I was like WTF, but as I watched in the back of my mind I realized Stoute had the juice….lol!
Being a refined cat from the South Bronx always used 2 baffle people, just like Stoute seems 2 baffle folks in Corporate America. At the end of the day its all about leaving your mark! Stoute I’ll U at the top.. 😉
