The Many Layers of Mark Bradford

Mark Bradford is the tallest artist I know—six feet seven and a half inches, and pencil thin, which makes him look taller. His paintings, as you’d expect, run large. When I visited Bradford’s industrial-sized studio, in South Los Angeles, this spring, one wall was almost entirely covered by a huge outline map of the United States, with clusters of numbers that represented the AIDS cases reported in each state up to 2009. The map was a study for a much larger one that he planned for a wall at the Hammer Museum, in Los Angeles, where an exhibition of his new work opens on June 20th.

This week will be the first installment in a series of posts that takes a deeper dive into the artists I picked for this collaboration. First up to bat is Marion Duschletta.

Marion Duschletta is a Swiss-born visual artist known for her artworks that consist of a mixture of acrylics, collages, and urban photos on canvas. The piece that I selected is entitled 101 Hollywood. Check out more information about the piece here. -LOM

Hugo McCloud x NY Times

Congrats to Hugo McCloud for being featuring in the NY Times. The times chats with him about his latest exhibition Put In Place currently on view at Vladimir Roitfeld’s project space on the upper east side in NYC until June 7th.

I’m proud to have been one of the first to exhibit Hugo’s work in NYC in Young Curators New Ideas IV : Beautiful Refuse Materiality back in 2012. It has been a joy to watch Hugo to continue to grow in his artistic practice. He is only scratching the surface. Read more here – LOM
