How to Find a Manufacturer in China

A few days ago I got into an interesting conversation with a friend who was exploring the possiblity of taking his business to the People’s Republic. Depending on who you talk to, China is the next great Super Power or on the verge of their carefully curated financial bubble bursting. Now I haven’t been back to China in a few years, but from chatting with friends who live there things are changing @ breakneck speed.

I was lucky enough to spend a year writing my graduate thesis about American multinationals entering the Chinese market. I evaluated success stories and failures in order to pinpoint the best practices that would enable a foreign firm to create a significant footprint in the China market.

While I there are plethora of opportunities to get $ in China, they do come with a significant amount of risk (i.e. “You can loose your shirt” a.k.a. go broke). Any company seeking to do business in China will have to jump some hoops (mainly governmental) and really get a grasp of the business culture in China.
Doing business in China will require hard work, proper due diligence and numerous conversations with folks who have knowledge of the market to get the ball rolling, but judging from my folks who are on the ground the profit potential makes it all worth the risk. Here is an interesting article about one man’s approach to finding a manufacturer in China. Read here.
