Lynette Yiadom – Boakye / Carrie Mae Weems @ Jack Shainman Gallery
In between all the chaos w/ Tribeca Film Festival, I found time for my favorite hobby —> attending art openings. Last Thurs. evening I attended the opening for the Lynette Yiadom – Boakye &Â Carrie Mae Weems exhibition @ Jack Shainman Gallery. The generational juxtaposition btn the younger Yiadom – Boakye & the seasoned Weems was a clever approach in the presentation of their new work.
My reaction to Weem’s video pieces was — “oh sh*t”. Two of my favorite words to utter when I engage with truly moving work. I’ve always believed if the piece doesn’t evoke a response…. it has not gotten the job done. Yiadom – Boakye & Weems passed with flying colors. 🙂 Check out a few flicks from the opening.
