Straight Outta LA Premiere @ Tribeca Film Festival
A few nights ago I fulfilled a childhood dream when I interviewed Ice Cube about his new film Straight Outta LA on the red carpet @ Tribeca Film Festival. I’ve been a fan of Cube since ’93 and was inspired by the words of wisdom he shared during our conversation.
Straight Outta LA (part of 30 on 30 series) is a wonderful ethnographic and cinematic account of life in LA during the 80’s and 90’s. When you take into consideration how influential major sports (Raiders) teams and Hip Hop have been with regard to empowering disenfranchised social/ethnic groups, I appreciate Ice Cube’s subtle approach @ educating and informing the viewer. This film is much deeper than the Raiders & N.W.A. Hopefully when people see this film they will be able to read btn the lines. I don’t wanna bore you with all my thoughts on the film…  Folks are in for a real treat when they see the flick May 11th @ 8pm on ESPN.Check out the picks. -!YG
