U Mad Cause I’m Stylin’ on U -Trendsetters

Trendsetter?
What exactly is a trendsetter? A person who follows their own personal style and consistently pulls off a look others find “smashing”. Moreover, a trendsetter inspires others to step up their fashion game. It might seem like only designers and industry heads have the skills and/or taste 2 pinpoint the next “big” trend, but that is not the case. Most of the time people r 2 caught up in looking the part, but u have 2 train yourself u “see” the part before u can truly spot trends.

Do the Knowledge
You can’t expect to become a trendsetter overnight. Just cause u copped a pair of Gucci loafs doesn’t make u a trendsetter. You have to delve into the fashion world and do the knowledge (Vogue Homme, Bristish GQ, any book by Alan Flusser – for the gents) that feature European fashion if you’re in the US (reverse if u in the EU….etc).

I’ve always found studying old school fashion from the 50’s, 60’s, etc.. 2 be an interesting approach. Classic looks never die & there’s always a way 2 incorporate something old school & make it fresh again. Get into the habit of flipping through books/mags & taking mental notes of what suits your taste.

Use accessories
I’ve always believed that accessories make the outfit. There r certain looks that just r classic. U add a splash of color with you accessories and u r golden. Whether it be a watch, tie, or a pair of Cazals… 1 little detail or accessory will be the difference maker.

Wear it with a Swaggar
If u wanna Style on people u gotta rock’ your wears with flare & moxie. Like most things in life it’s all about “confidence”. I’ve seen people wear some ridiculous sh*t, but they rocked it with such panache u couldn’t even hate. Make sure that u give any ensemble that u rock your own personal touch. Straight copying is not gangsta.

Travel
As mentioned before stay abreast with the trends going on in the EU, Africa & Asia. Travelin’ is the best way 2 step up your fashion game. A scarf from Paris, kicks from Germany,shirt from India, & jeans from Tokyo will truly make u a King/Queen amongst men/women. Plus it’s much more interesting 2 rummage thru clothes in a boutique in Roma or Milano… U r guaranteed that no one in your hood will be able 2 jack your flavor. There is nothing like stylin’ on someone when they ask u where did u cop that shirt & u say Athens…. 🙂

Befriend Fashionistas
Having friends who are in the business (r just fashion forward) is always a feather in your hat. They usually know what’s popping a year ahead. Moreover, they have a tendency 2 be very creative and in due time all those creative juices will rub off on U.

Stylin’ on You
You don’t have to be a fashion guru to become a trendsetter — it becomes an acquired skill over time. Pay attention when u r watching movies, reading mags/books or walking down the streets of Soho/Champs-ElysÃ©es/Las Ramblas 2 what people r rockin’. This is the easiest way 2 keep your eyes peeled 4 new trends or at least find a source of fashion inspiration. Remember at the end of the day its about expressing your individuality & using clothes as the tool for that expression.
