ArtBridge is currently accepting submissions for Another New York, a photography-based public exhibition that invites Brooklyn-based photographers to submit small series’ of works in response to the project brief below. All works selected for exhibition will be exhibited large-scale* (up to 16 feet high) at the Atlantic Yards development in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, beginning in July of 2013. DEADLINE: Sunday, April 14 @ Midnight.
PROJECT BRIEF: New York City is one of the most heavily photographed cities in the world. From tourist snapshots of Times Square, too-often derivative street photography and Instagram reaching limitless heights, many photographers have described today’s NYC as a dying photographic vantage point with nothing new to say. This outdoor exhibition, Another New York looks to change this pessimism by presenting photography that captures New York City with a new and unexpected eye. Scheduled to be unveiled in Summer 2013 on the construction fencing and scaffolding at the site of the Barclays Center*, in Brooklyn, NY, this exhibition, juried and curated by Jon Feinstein and internationally-renowned Brooklyn-based artist Mickalene Thomas, challenges photographers born, living, or working in Brooklyn to help us fall in love with New York City again.
