CONVERSATIONS AMONG FRIENDS FEATURING DAVID ADJAYE AND PEDRO GADANHO
Recently, the MoMA and Friends of Education hosted a conversation between starchitect David Adjaye OBE and Curator for Contemporary Architecture Pedro Gadanho at the museum. It was a pleasure to be a fly on the wall and listen to one of the best “fireside chats” that I’ve heard in a long time. Adjaye and Gadanho have been friends for almost two decades and it generated a level of candor that you don’t normally find in these settings.
The majority of the conversation revolved around Adjaye’s work (i.e. Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History), it’s relationship to art, and his collaborations with artists (i.e. The Upper Room with Chris Ofili). I was quite moved by Adjaye’s belief that art, architecture and aesthetics have the power to change the world we live in. This simple notion is often taken for granted, but it is an essential piece to the puzzle that shapes the world around us.
Adjaye’s passion to push the boundaries of art and architecture via his work is truly inspirational. As a first generation Ghanaian-American, the achievement and excellence that Adjaye represents is a shining example that all possible with focus, discipline, perseverance and passion.  David Adjaye’s heightened sense of inquiry present in all his projects go beyond function and form to really explore the emotional value that an artistic endeavor can provide. You can see more of Adjaye’s handiwork @ the Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea. He did the design for the Richard Avadon show which is currently on view until July 6th, 2012.  – LOM (@youngglobal)
