I stumbled upon this book after reading Larry Gagosian’s piece in FT. I was curious to pick up this book because Kahnweiler was Pablo Picasso’s art dealer and I’ve always be fascinated with the folks who make things happen behind the scenes. Summary
Kahnweiler (1884-1979), a German-Jewish banker, established a Paris gallery in 1907 and championed artists including Picasso, Braque, Leger and Gris. According to PW , “Assouline’s meticulously researched and fluidly translated biography successfully analyzes a complex figure who played a pivotal role in the marketing and eventual triumph of modern art.”
