World Business Forum 2010 – Martin Lindstrom (Buy-ology)
Martin Lindstrom was my favorite speaker during the World Business Forum 2010. The author of buy-ology, Martin Lindstrom, shared a variety of insightful nuggets about How to brand your Product.
One of the biggest questions Lindstrom posed during his talk was : Is your brand a smashable brand?
Smashable brands meaning…. would your brand still be recognizable if you removed the logos, color scheme, symbols, etc. Smashable brands are resilient and stand the test of time & we could even venture to say they are inelastic goods (i.e. Coke, McDonald’s).
Brands need to start asking themselves… Is My Brand Smashable? because according to Martin, “the future of branding uses non-conscious symbols”. It is via these non-conscious symbols that brands will be able to communicate indirect messages that influence consumer’s purchasing habits.
