NYC Bike Lanes
New York has seemed to turn into New Amsterdam over the past couple years with the increased amount of bike lanes popping up around the city. If you have walked down 7th, 8th and 9th Avenue lately you have noticed a difference. The city planned to create 200 miles of bike lanes by 2009 and their plan looks to be on schedule.
When I first saw the bike lanes it threw me off a bit. I’m a avid bike (renter) rider and seeing all these lanes being created definitely tells me the city is starting to get it. With the economy in a rut people are looking for practical alternatives to make ends meet. Plus, with the potential for metro fares to go up to $3… bikes will be a good look. Oh….. and biking is better for the environment… lol!
I was actually talking to a buddy during Memorial Weekend and he mentioned that the city was considering adopting a similiar biking program like they have in Paris. For bikers the city’s intiative is a manna from the heaven and drivers another reason why driving in the city will suck. Either way…. Get Used 2 It! – !YG
