Heavy burdens meet Ghanaians moving South
During my four weeks in Ghana, I spent some time in Tamale. Tamale was an important part of my visit because when I mentioned going to the North to friends it was like saying I was headed to Siberia. My interest was immediately piqued…. lol!
I will admit the 6 hour bus ride from Kumasi was not fun (you can also fly), but it did give me a different perspective on my country. Tamale opened my eyes on many levels… from the different tribes to the mostly Muslim communities, a new picture was painted in my mind.
Although it is not talked about much there is a regional, religious and tribal divide btn the North and other parts of Ghana. Most people tend to glaze over this notion, but I believe this division was a key catalyst for the Northern Region’s backing of John Mills in the election this past December. With several projects in the works economic parity will begin to flow from the Northern region to the rest of the Ghana.. namely via the Bui Dam. -!YG
