Weekend in NYC
There are a lot of things poppin this weekend….. check it out
FRIDAY – AUGUST 3RD
BILAL live at the Highline Ballroom (SPECIAL GUEST JAHI SUNDANCE)
 Produced by Jill Newman Productions
Friday, August 3 @ 9PM, $25
   Â
Bilal, one of the most stylistically versatile vocalists of our time, emerged as part of the loose-knit Soulquarian collective, which included the likes of Erykah Badu, Common and Mos Def. His breakthrough 2001 release, 1st Born Second, melded hip-hop aesthetics with neo-soul vocals and clear jazz influences, winning him enormous praise and a spot on the Billboard top ten.
Bilal has since appeared on a number of new and important jazz recordings, including Robert Glasper’s Canvas and John Ellis’s Roots, Branches and Leaves. At the Bardavon, Bilal’s guest appearance with the Hargrove Big Band will extend the natural, improvisational confluence of hip-hop, R&B and jazz – great African-American art forms all.
