The Houston native, Christopher Dave is widely known as the “part-time” tight drummer of the underappreciated band Mint Condition. He has performed with the Mint for several years but has performed with various artists of different generes: Kenny Garrett, Bobby Sparks, Mary J Blidge, Toni Braxton, Kevin Mahagony, Vicente Archer, Vernel Brown, Vernell Brown, Munyungo Jackson, Romero Lubambo, Shedrick Mitchell, Charnett Moffett, Nat Reeves, Dianne Reeves, Otmaro Ruiz and Reginald Veal (so far). He has been the major influence of Eric Porter. According to Andrew Lienard of Jazz Houston News, “The first time I heard Chris, he was playing with Roy Hargrove in the 1987 Texas All-State band. A freshman, Chris was already a playing rhythms more complex than most could understand. In the years since he’s done a wide range of stuff.”

Chris Dave, one of New York’s top young drummers, returns to the Blue Note for one night only on August 1, 2007.  Dave, born in Texas, has been the drummer behind Mint Condition, Robert Glasper, Kenny Garrett and Meshell Ndegeocello, among others.  Brought back by popular demand and produced by Jill Newman Productions, Dave will be performing at the Blue Note with bassist James Genus of Saturday Night Live and the talented vocalist Stokley of Mint Condition.  Don’t miss the chance to see this all-star group of musicians perform at the world’s finest jazz club.

BILAL live at the Highline Ballroom (SPECIAL GUEST JAHI SUNDANCE)

 Produced by Jill Newman Productions

Friday, August 3 @ 9PM, $25

Bilal, one of the most stylistically versatile vocalists of our time, emerged as part of the loose-knit Soulquarian collective, which included the likes of Erykah Badu, Common and Mos Def. His breakthrough 2001 release, 1st Born Second, melded hip-hop aesthetics with neo-soul vocals and clear jazz influences, winning him enormous praise and a spot on the Billboard top ten.

Bilal has since appeared on a number of new and important jazz recordings, including Robert Glasper’s Canvas and John Ellis’s Roots, Branches and Leaves. At the Bardavon, Bilal’s guest appearance with the Hargrove Big Band will extend the natural, improvisational confluence of hip-hop, R&B and jazz – great African-American art forms all.
