More YG Travel Secrets…….Rule #2-Make Your List and Keep a Travel Journal
Now that u have started putting your pennies away to save for those relaxing vacations in exotic locales it is time for rule #2. The next step is to start making your list of places that u want to visit and buying a travel journal. It might seem a bit extreme, but I have been doing it for while & it helps. I use my journal to keep track of air/hotel rates and list places to visit in the city.
I keep a running list of places to visit, as well as who I know in these cities/countries. As glamorous as the 5 star hotel life sounds, if you can crash at a friend/family memeber’s pad….u will get more bang for your buck. (U can give me a youth hostel any day….) Furthermore, staying with a local will give u a better perspective. If you long to be pampered….. good planning can help u find great hotel deals.
Y keep a travel list? Well, I have always believed that when u write things down, especially dream vacations they become more attainable. Moreover, u can focus on finding deals to these specific destinations. Furthermore, now u can reach out to your network (rule #3) and see who has contacts where. Nothing like having a connect when u touchdown in a new place. From Bangkok to Brooklyn, I know somebody. 🙂
As an example I usually keep my list down to 5 places at a time. Right now my top 5 includes:
- Jordan/Dubai- I got friends there
- South Africa- I got friends there
- Mexico- I got friends there
- Japan – I got friends there
- Estonia – I need friend here
Now that I have my list (plus my little notes) I try to pinpoint when the high & low seasons r for these places….. The best time (in my opinion) to visit most destinations is during low season. Everything is cheaper and more accessible when demand is lower. Simple economics! Unless u have a friend or family member there… traveling off peak/shoulder season can really reduce your cost. Hotels r more likely to offer deals, packages, or upgrades during low periods of demand. Once u figure out when low season is..u can start plugging in potential dates and planning ahead.
I know that this might seem a bit much….but good planning leads to great vacations…. 🙂
